At doors across Grantham, the same concerns keep coming up: rising costs for renters and families, infrastructure and sidewalks that haven't kept pace with an aging population, and a community that wants to see real investment — not just more buildings.
I'm listening, and here's what that means for the plan.
New tenants in St. Catharines are currently paying 25.7% more than long-term tenants for the same units. With rental occupancy at ~95%, Ward 5 residents have almost no negotiating power. I will be the explicit renter advocate at council on every zoning, property standards, and housing vote.
Ward 5 scores only 2/5 for transit availability. Sidewalk clearing near schools and bus stops consistently falls short. With 23.3% of residents being seniors — above the national average — this is a safety issue, not a convenience issue.
Walker's Creek Trail, Port Weller Community Centre, and $400,000 in City cultural grants available in 2025. Ward 5 needs a councillor who shows up at planning tables and ensures our ward's voice is heard.
